When receiving emails from mail server it stops for no apparant reason. It gets to perhaps message 35 of 98 and will go no further, just stops downloading until server times out. If I reconnect the same thing happens on the same message (35 of 98) I am using OE6 XP Home. If I download the messages on another machine running OE5 on ME there are no problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Does your ISP enable you to access your mail via a web interface? If so, do so and delete message #35.

Thanks for the idea Brett but my ISP does not have a web interface. I have noticed that the emails that cause the problems appear to come from hotmail or MSN, but not all messages from them cause problems?
I have added @hotmail.com to my blocked senders list, do you think this will work?

    Thanks for your help,

    Mick

You could use a program like Magic Mail Monitor or MailWasher to delete them from the server. Either program works good. I myself prefer Magic Mail Monitor. It doesn't have a lot of the features that MailWasher has such as the blacklist feature and the bounce feature but I personally don't think they're of much value these days anyway. MMM is small and does what it does well. Have a look at both and take your pick. :)

Thanks Zander I have tried Magic Mail Monitor and as you say its simple but effective. Still dont understand why I am getting this problem but using MMM is an effective way around it.

Thanks for your help it's much appreciated

Thanks for posting back. Out of curiosity, did you happen to try to open the troublesome ones with MMM? Double clicking on them will open them in a text file. It would be interesting to know what happens when you try to view them this way.

This happen to about 10 people at work, we were able to get to webmail box and delete the perticular email. It was corrupted somehow. 0 bytes, no subject, no sender. OE saw it as new mail, but there was nothing there, so I believe it(OE) was stuck in an endless loop.

Yes but these rogue messages download ok using OE v 5 and ME. Why not with OE6 and XP? Perhaps its something to do with XP's security.

Zander I had already got rid of the troublesome emails so could not try them with MMM as you suggest. When I get another one I will see what happens and let you know.

Ok, but in case you don't know, if you try to retrieve them using MMM, they still remain on the server regardless of whether or not MMM is able to get them. MMM just gives you a preview of sorts and the email remains on the server. So, it's still necessary to delete them after viewing them, regardless of whether or not MMM is able to retrieve them.

    FWIW,
I've had lots of those blank emails get through, and I've had a bunch that needed manually deleted from the server. XP Pro and IE 6.

I have had a couple of emails that OE would not download. I looked at them as you suggested with MMM but they seemed perfectly normal ( if you consider spam to be normal). I am begining to wonder if its something to do with my virus checker, I have been using Macavee which seems to be better with XP than Norton which caused all sorts of problems.

I've had some of these strange blank emails but they have not caused any problems?
