Does this mean it's under warranty?
Some manufacturer's will let you ugrade if replacement is required.

the 3 Year warranty was an option not what i had. i only had 1 year. Laptop was replace through insurance due to freak weather conditions which caused power surge through phone line. Iridium said a new mother board would be £300 but i just wondered if i could get one on the net, its just i dont know what to get. I have bought m/b for desktop but not laptops. I have looked at the M/B and cant find any reference anywhere as to what it is or what to replace it with. Dont get me wrong i do have my new laptop which is great but i just want to tinker with the old if i can. I presume they all come different size and shape. The processor on the board was only a 1ghz so need to think about that somewhere along the line for the new M/B. The 2ghz mentioned above is in the spec of my new lap top. Same model just a newer version.
Sorry if this post seem garbled I only had 4hrs sleep last night and am about dead on my feet now.

There should be some numbers on that board somewhere, or a sticker. May have to use a magnifying glass. If nothing else, chipset make and numbers might help.

I'm guessing it's one of the 520 models by the specs, and Iridiums website doesn't share much info, does it!? :(

    NC23T02A02661
    150-01004869
P/N:76-32200-003 (on a small board (all three))

    0Cel17F (on a sticker)

all other chips have too small a writing on them.

Gave the site you entioned a look, even rang them up to enquire all I got from them was that I need to dend the board to them so that they can decide if its repairable or replaceable. I already know that it cant be fixed as it has already been to Iridium but as to replacing i have now been quoted £300 and £400 pounds. Dont you think this is a bit steep for a M/B. You can buy desk top boards for £30 thats ten time less??????????????.
Gonna try ebay i think will let you know how i get on.

    Stitch,

You may be flogging a dead horse here, but I have the feeling that you're not going to let go - yet :D Good luck!

Now you know why laptops cost 2 - 3 x the price of a desktop and have less performance - all to do with miniaturisation.

    Ok Ok Ok
    I get it.
Couldn't find anything on Ebay. So will keep the old Laptop for spare parts. I know when to give up (just dont like it). Will get on with the building of my friends desk top.
    Thanks Pete
