Netscape Bookmarks Manager Problem

In Netscape 7.1 ( I recently upgraded from 7.0)
when I click bookmarks it takes about 15 secs for pane to open. Once open I click "˜Manage Bookmarks’ and find all my Bookmarks displayed, many pages,. If I then click "˜Search Bookmarks’ my system freezes. I have replaced the existing Bookmarks file by renaming and allowing NS to create a pristine file to which I add a few Bookmarks; they are recorded but again if I click "˜Search Bookmarks’ my system freezes.

My System: PC, AMD Athlon 1.7 Ghz, 512 MB ram, OS: Windows ME

My bookmarks file contains about 990 kb.

Hi Don,

I wonder if you are using a Theme other than the default "Modern "? If so, this often causes problems.

Also, are your Bookmarks organized into folders, or are they listed as single Bookmarks.

Did you uninstall 7.0, or is it still running, and if so, are you sharing a Profile.

I hope I am responding here at the proper place.

1) I dont understand what you mean by " Using a Theme other than the default Modern?

2) My bookmarks are in both folders and singles, but mostly singles.

3) Yes I have uninstalled NS7.0.

Hi Don,

In your Preferences | Appearance | Themes
You have the option to change the Theme or "Skin" of the browser, but since you didn't know it existed we can cross that off the list! Themes often cause problems with Bookmarks, and this is why I asked...

I believe you may have a corrupt Bookmarks file (bookmarks.html). Try this workaround, and see if it helps the hangs, when searching in Bookmarks:

Netscape 7.x, and Mozilla 1.x Bookmarks File is Corrupt
