OK folks - we posted a problem with Outlook Express not sending pictures. We got a lot of "settings" answers.
    We did them all.

    Still won't work on computer # 1.

So, we unplugged the DSL from Computer # 1 and plugged it into Computer # 2.

Outlook Express sends pictures and backgrounds etc. just great.

So, computer # 1 has a bad copy of OE.

We cleared all mail - nothing will be lost.
Now how can we reinstall a good working copy of Outlook Express?
Can it be done by reinstalling Windows XP Pro new? (that is a lot of work)
Can we do a Windows Xp Pro repair and get a good copy of OE ?
    If so, How?

We were going to do a new install - however our Drive C is a bad partition (very small one at that).
The good Windows is on drive D.
The install program wants to use C. If we do reinstall how do we
get Windows to overwrite to drive D?

You can see we got problems - all we want to do is junk our current installayion of Outlook express and install a good one.
And it would be nice if the new installation would bring forward
all five e-mail accounts and the address book.

    Suggestions ? Thanks.

    First thing to try
    - put the XP install CD in the drive
    - start~run~sfc /scannow

The critical IE/OE files are included in the system file check since they are so tightly integrated into XP. And sfc is smart enough to check the system files on the XP load you booted to.

If you do decide to reinstall, boot from the CD and when you get to the screen for where to put it, you will have a choice of any recognized partition on your system. Probably good to just format the partition you don't want to clean it off but then put XP where it works best for you.

    Thanks - we did a stsrt-run-sfc/scannow (enter).

Got a message "cannot find "

Did it to all drives, plus the drive where the CD is.

    Same message.

Did a "search" for "sfc ".

Found it on my active OS - tried to run it. It is a DOS program and the little black screen pops up and goes bye-bye real fast.

Found plenty of "sfc" files. They are all data files of some sort - none will run.

This Windows XP Pro CD I got has very little stuff on it but the main "setup file ". And that is what we are trying to avoid,
Just to get a workable copy of Outlook Express installed again.

    We tried - thanks !

    Hi there:

Anybody out there ever goofed, made a boo-boo or did something that made you feel plain stupid?

    Well, I just did !

We tried every possible way to run that there "sfc ".........
    except the "right" way.

I was banging my head against the monitor, when in walks my wife (who is a Secretary by proffession) - and she says:
Well, why don't you include that "space" after sfc and before the / ?

    Hello ! It worked.

Let's hear it for Secretaries !

LOL. You are in good company with that. Lots and lots of folks have done the same thing.

Did it help when you finally got it to run?
