I know how to set folder icons, but does anyone know where XP keeps it's hardware icons ?

    The reason I ask .....

I have a multi format card reader that I bought and installed myself, all of the drives show up as the generic "removable drive" icon.

Recently I saw a new HP with a multi-format card reader built in. When you go to "My Computer" Each drive has a respective icon as to whether it's CF, SD/MMC, Memory Stick etc.

Hence my question how can you change the icon associated with a piece of hardware.

    Thansk for any input

I don't know about changing the icon itself but you can add a name to it. Open my computer and right click on one of the drives, choose properties and type the name you want in the box at the top. If you name one mmc, that's what you'll see along side the icon for that drive. Do the same for all of them.

Edit: I did some checking on mine and found you can also simply right click on the drive in My Computer and choose rename. This seems to work too.

I've played with that, but what you are naming is that actual memory card that is inserted at the time. When you remove the card it reverts back to the name "removable disk "

It's really not critical, just curious, and hoped some of our resident experts might have had XPerience with this.

    Thanks,
    John
