    * Lost OE *

    Providing support for Lover's company notebook w/ W2K Pro. Was running IE 5.5 and had OE working great. :D

    Company upgraded IE to 6. OE seems to have disappeared. :eek:

    Looked in 'C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\' folder and there are only four files:
    • oemig50.exe
    • setup50.exe
    • wab.exe
    • wabmig.exe
    All of the 'dll' files and the 'msimn.exe' are now missing. Why would the OE files disappear with IE upgrade?

    Is there a means to reinstall OE without reinstalling IE? (Do not want to mess up company settings on IE - used for VPN)

    If directed to 'Add/Remove...' then 'Windows Components', will checking OE there install it w/o requiring a CD? Or are the setup files on the HD somewhere there as a result of the new IE but just not yet installed?

    What if you downloaded IE 6 service pack again, and chose custom install...then chose just OE? Disregard the message of having it already. Would that wourk?

    Hi, Daizy ~

    Unfortunately, the option for custom install is not available in IE6 for W2K & XP.

    Well, I fired off an email to my "guru "...and he seems to think that it will most likely ask for the CD, if you choose the add/remove route. Do you not have access to it?

    Updated IE was deployed across the company network, so CD I am sure is not available. An addition, I don't think W2K contains the files for IE6 and also do not want to overwrite the company IE6 settings.

    I have no clue what that means, but what is the problem? Can you no longer use Outlook Express?
    Since this seems to be a "Company" matter, have they provided some other email system?
    My C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\ does contain more than yours, but have you run a Find to see where msimn.exe is on your hard drive, but perhaps somewhere else? And the actual OE mail folders are in your store file. You find its location in OE Tools|Options|Maintenance|Store Files.
    More important are the answers to the questions above.

    Hi Jim ~

    The problem is that after IE upgrade from 5.5 to 6 SP1, OE is GONE.

    Also, your suggestion of "Tools|Options|Maintenance|Store Files" will not work as there is no OE, but we already have the DBX files backed up so that is not an issue. The issue is OE will not run as the OE executable is not on the HD.

    You're welcome. Good luck.

    I have done this one myself and it really did only download and install OE. But, be warned that this was in XP, though I suspect few differences in this area with 2k.

    But just to be on the safe side, you'd better check that the REG_DWORD, IsInstalled for IE is set to 1 here:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
