Hi All: I must have made a really stupid mistake, downloaded and flashed BIOS with incorrect version. On last visit to www.soyousa.com I see a warning next to the KVX42AA8 version, installed on this machine, says it is only for Duron Apple Bred, whatever that is. I have the Athalon XP 2000 and I think I should have versionKVX42AA7.

Machine as always working in fits and starts. Wrong BIOS installed may have some impact on this?

I find it hard to believe that warning was there when I flashed. Possible it was added at a later date??

Can the older version be flashed back in? Any particular cautions?

    All replies will be appreciated.

    Martin

As long as you can still boot, the answer is yes. You also need to make sure you install the correct matched HighPoint drivers, as that bios bin file from Soyo is going to also update/change your HighPoint controller. If for any reason you go bust, you can get Jack Rowland to send you a new chip, already flashed to whatever version you want. Fastest turnaround is if you send him the bin files attached in an email. Cost is in the $20 range including priority mail delivery. Jack@Badflash.com or go here

Hi Rockster: Thanks for the comeback on this one. I feel so stupid. I just think there is no way I could have missed that warning, must have been an errant click.

Anyhow, I can still boot. I'm not sure of anything, but I think the correct High Point drivers (3.4xx) are currently installed. Is the flash back to the correct bios going to change that??

Considering the worst case scenario, if the flash changes those drivers, and as you know the machine boots from the SCSI controller, what happens next?? I have those drivers on Floppy, if machine does not boot, I boot from start up floppy, how next to get correct Highpoint drivers into machine from driver floppy? There are no .exe files on the floppy.

Sorry to be such a pain.

Just go to your Highpoint controller in Device manager and update drivers. If they won't take because you have installed a newer version then choose select from list and seek out the drivers on the floppy. I'd do this before you reflash, but holler if you hit problems. Also, you have to clear CMOS on that particular board after your flash and reset or at least check your BIOS settings.

Called a brain cramp - it happens.

Ok Rockster, easy as pie. I have the correct Highpoint drivers installed, Flash will not affect them.

This is the third time I typed this response, brain cramped while looking for other information, accidently closed it twice. Brain cramps come closer together as I get older.

Too tired to mess with it tonight, will do the flash in the AM, will post results.

Step one, flash BIOS. Step two, Clear CMOS. Step three, boot computer & pray.

Thanks for your help,it is always valued and appreciated.

So I go to Soyo site to download BIOS flash and get this:

"Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (146) in /data/www/soyousa.com/helpers/db.php on line 7
Database error. Please try again later. "

I sure hope that this is their server's error and not my machine which connects flawlessly to other sites. I will take the advice and try again later. My luck to have their site go down at a critical moment for me.

    Bios flash will be delayed.

Hi All: Got onto the Soyo site this afternoon, was able to download flash version 2AA7, got the BIOS flashed, for some reason could not save old version.

Only one restart by the machine since, no BSODs, I hope that is the end of them.

Thanks Rockster, your help was very important to me.

    Martin

Edit: did not have to clear CMOS.

Congratulations Martin. Gald to hear it - I've never been able to get those Soyo's (KT333 or 400) to boot after a flash without clearing CMOS and I've done a bunch of them - maybe I need to come over there and pick your brain for a while.

    Regards,
    ;)

Sorry Rockster, no brain left to pick. All gone like parellel port printers and the dodo bird.

When I tried to save the old BIOS, got an error message: "Source file not found" Strange, never saw that one before on BIOS, maybe I was running without one.

    Thanks again

Maybe because you had the wrong BIOS installed?

Well, I suspected that too, but I'm not sure that makes any sense, obviously there was a BIOS file in there, I was just surprised it could'nt be found by it's maker. Maybe the machine, with it's superior intelligence had already figured out I'd never revert.
