Recently my Intellimouse Explorer started hanging up (pausing) and I receive a simultaneous audible "ding-dong" when it happens. It doesn't happen for the first few minutes the machine is on, however after a few minutes it starts without warning. I get a "ding-dong" when it pauses and another when it starts up again. Sometimes in rapid succession, sometimes not. After a few of these the mouse shuts down and does not respond at all. The red light (optical mouse) which indicates the mouse is on, turns off as well. I have tried the troubleshooting guide, uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse and updating the new drivers. Nothing has worked, please help. I searched and found some others with the same problem but no workable solutions. There is no short in the USB wire either.
When I remove it and re-insert it back in the USB port it starts working again. I used to have the mouse on my previous computer with the same problems. I believe that all these troubles start when I have Norton Antivirus 2004 installed.

I have had, and read about others having wierd mouse behavior using the USB port. I use the PS/2 port using the adapter and have no mouse problems.
