    Hi -
I live in Italy and recently bought HP pavilion 350 computer, with windows XP home edition, after setting it up I realised that, I couldn't change the language on it so on Microsoft supports say so - I ordered an english version of XP home edition and installed it, although I lost all the HP stuff - the english version seems ok -
BUT - now recovery disk D is full and I cannot install anything on it, and system recovery will not work as theres no disk space left.
Disk C is 95% empty, can I use C instead and if so how? or what can I do to make more room.Is this something to do with partioning etc? please note I'm a bit of a beginner so I need spoon feeding so to speak. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have spent quite a bit of money and its frustrating that I cannot install anything onto the disk,

You certainly should be able to use your C: drive for anything you want.

My suggestion to you at this point - should be easier in the long run than messing with a system that is having problems - would be to save (to CD or something) any personal files you have and do a clean install. I mean by that to absolutely wipe out everything that is there now and set the system up properly and in a fashion that suits the way you want to work.

If you want to do that, we can certainly give you detailed instructions (or maybe links to pages that already have the details you will need).

    recovery disk D: ???

You mentioned 'recovery disk D:'. Hewlett-Packard uses the D: drive to store System Recovery software. Did you format this partition when you installed XP? If not, this would 'normally' not be used for program installations, you would skip D: and go to E:. Also, don't confuse this with XP's 'System Restore', that's whole whole different thing. Can you give more information?

    Mr B

thanks for answering Mr B, I am going with Newt at the moment -
That is the problem that nothing will install onto C - only D - I guess when I installed the UK version it set up a partition. Not sure, this is when my birdbrain steps in and takes over.!! - Sus

Not a problem... I agree 100% with Newt that to wipe the drive and start 'clean' is definitely the best idea.

    Sus,
I think you made a good decision. Here is the "Elder Geek's" step by step Installation Guide . Please post back and let us know how it went (or if you have any more questions).
