    Hi Ramona:

Can the process in your article, "Archiving and Accessing Netscape/Mozilla Mail on CD" be done in Netscape 4.x?

    Hi Suzette,

I've not tried it with Communicator as it is so obsolete now. You would have to create a separate Profile for just the CD Archive. I'll give it a try and let you know...

    Netscape 7.1 (bugs or not)

    Hi Ramona:

I've tried several file manipulations with no success. Have you by chance found any solutions?

Also, in Netscape 7.1, there seems to be an email printing problem. Certain users printing emails teext is too large. Is this another bug in Netscape 7.x and/or is there a solution for that also?

Are there this many problems with Mozilla 1.6 email?

Too many questions, so little time....;(

    Hi Suzette,

I spent quite a lot of time yesterday trying to get the CD Mail Archive to work with Netscape 4.79. I couldn't get Messenger to access the Mail with the phony account.

There are large font problems when printing in 7.1:

Printing-font setup should be different from display-font-setup

    ---- Additional Comment #10 From Andrew Thomas 2003-07-20 06:19 ---
This seems to have been introduced in 1.4. The browser font size now makes printing use a larger font (16 seems to be the default) where in 1.3 and before though the screen used 16, printing seemed to use about 12. If the broswer was set to 17, printing became 13, etc. The new setting wastes a lot of paper!!

See: "All email prints in very large fonts" - Additional Comment #9

"ok, I went to the fonts prefs panel, changed my mono space font size to 20 pixels.
As expected, the message pane now uses a larger font.
If I now print that same message, it gets printed out with the large font.

In short, printing a document uses the same font size as what you have
configured the message pane to use. "
    ---

Experiment by changing both the proportional and monospace font sizes up or down. Try changing the font size in Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Fonts
Print a test page to see if any of the above helps.

I have never had a problem with fonts when printing mail or web pages, in either Netscape or Mozilla. However, I can't guarantee that you won't have the problem if using Mozilla 1.6.

Finally gave up on Netscape 4-7

    Hi Ramona:

All the research and searching I've done, I could only find a couple answers for 4.x. One is from you...;)

    http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/archivemailcd.html
    (very helpful!!)

Netscape's 4.x support: "Remote Profile Storage on Windows" states, "this is unsupported ".

    http://help.netscape.com/kb/consumer/19981121-2.html

I've come to an end and decided to updagrade to Mozilla 1.6, Thunderbird 0.3.

Thank you for your help! Guess you can close this thread...;( I have a few other problems which I will open another thread.

Again Ramona!! You're Great and thanks for your help!!!

    Sincerely, Suzette

    Hi Suzette,

I fixed your NSKB Article link. I kept getting a 404.

I didn't understand that you wanted to access the Communicator Profile from a remote drive. I understood that you wanted to archive and read Communicator Mail from a CD.

You can always store the Mail on CD and then copy it back to the Mail folder, if storage is all that's needed. All that you need to do is:

Copy only the files with no SNM extension.

When you need to view those files in Messenger again, they can be copied back to the Mail folder. You would, of course, rename them first to avoid overwriting an existing file of the same name, e.g., Inbox to OldInbox.

I think you will be quite pleased with Mozilla 1.6, which BTW is a suite (including Mail & Newsgroups). Thunderbird0.3 is a standalone Mail application.

Good luck, and let us know if we can be of further help.

    Ramona :D
