I have finally been able to install and run Netscape 7.1 (RAMONA is a GEM!!! Thank you!), but another old problem is still plaguing me. I don't think it's been asked/addressed before (haven't found it in various search attempts) so here goes.

The profile manager keeps losing track of my profile. Only the default shows up. Note that my profile folder has not gone anywhere, just it's listing in the manager. How can I help avoid that? Any idea what can be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

    Welcome to the Forum, Jaguwar!

    Hi Michelle,

I'm glad I was able to help in whatever small way! :)

The problem is really with registry.dat file. It most likely is corrupt, and can't find your profile. This occurs most frequently with Windows XP users.

    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
    Open Windows Explorer
    Navigate to:
    C:\.......\Application Data\Mozilla
    Delete the registry.dat file
    Start Netscape
The Profile Manager will prompt for a new Profile
Use the same name as the current Profile
If you Profile name is Michelle, then use Michelle again
    Start Netscape

Let us know if you have further questions, or continue to have problems.

    Ramona :D

    Tnx for the welcome!

I have funny and good news. I was coming to post I'd finally figured out the problem.... only to find you've given me the same answer! *LOL* In desperation, I'd been running searches for my profile name and the complete path in the Netscape/Netscape and /windows/profiles (etc) folders and came up with the registry file. Sillydog.org gave me the answer.

Anyway, thanks a bunch! I've been fighting 7.1 since it came out! A recent defrag caused all my Netscape settings to get lost, so I found your site and did a fresh install. This has been a productive day!

    Thanks again!

    Michelle
