Yesterday I removed Norton Systemworks 2002 Pro (this included Norton Anti Virus) from my computer. I ran Registry 1st Aid to remove all references to Norton, and did the same with msconfig. I rebooted, installed a new virus program, and thought all was well. This morning, I find that I cannot open a Word document: an error message tells me that NAV cannot scan the document and I should delete and reinstall NAV. Well, I don't want to do that. I did delete and reinstall Office 2000 Pro. I still get the error message, but after closing two dialog boxes, the document opens. I didn't have the time to run Reg 1st Aid this morning after removing Office, and Word does work, sort of. However, I want to eliminate the reference to NAV. Any ideas?

Norton Systemworks and NAV can be very touchy to uninstall. It leaves all sorts of stuff behind even tho' you use the uninstallers. go to this site: Uninstall Norton Systemworks 2002 and read and follow the instructions on a manual uninstall. As you have already done the auto uninstall you may be able to proceed directly to the manual.

Good luck, and post back how you make out or for more help.

Wow! That was exciting. I printed two pages of registry keys that Symantec told me I had to delete. After backing up my registry (a process in itself) and carefully following the list (some of the keys were already deleted), I can claim success. Word now opens all documents the way it should. Thanks for the tip. I think it'll be a cold day in July before I ever purchase, or recommend the purchase, of Systemworks. It's hard to believe that their uninstaller doesn't do the job. Based on the amount of web pages devoted to uninstalling Systemworks, etc, you'd think they'd fix it. Probably cheaper to have me do what I did. Thanks again.

Your welcome, glad that worked out for you and thanks for posting back. Yes Norton/Symantec products can be a bit of a PITA if not treated right. I use NAV 2001 with no problems but have turned of the option to scan MS Office. I think that was probably the root of your problem.:)
