I just installed AVG 7.0. I'm trying to configure it to scan e-mail both incoming and outgoing. I've read the help files (some of which aren't very helpful), and maybe there's something I'm missing, but I can't get it to work. As I understand, I have to change my e-mail client (Courier) to a server of 127.0.0.1, which I understand. I'm guessing that inbound mail goes through AVG first before it hits my client; the reverse being true for outbound mail. But nowhere in AVG can I find out where to add my ISP's server name. If AVG is going to poll mail, it has to know what server to go to.

I don't have Courier so I can't tell you where to look for sure but you'll have to look in Courier's options. The mail server will be in there somewhere. Maybe there's something in the menu's about accounts or account options. Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe somebody that has Courier will show up here and be able to help you.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to the Courier forum?????

I know where the settings are in Courier. My question relates to AVG and getting it configured to work correctly. There's the default port setting of 5200, and my ISP requires port 110. Does Courier communicate to AVG on port 5200, then AVG polls on port 110? If so, where within AVG do I insert port 110? Or am I missing the boat?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I have played with AVG a little in the past but I can't for the life of me remember if I had to configure it or not. I believe I just entered my mail server and used whatever the default ports were and everything worked as it should. I can't say for sure though as it's been quite a while.

Hang tight here and somebody with AVG will more than likely pop in and have an answer for you.

    Fieldtech,
AVG automaticly scans incoming and outgoing by default. If your question is does it inform you of a scan status at the bottom of a incoming or outgoing email, then you must see the list of email clients from AVG that do that. Not all of the email clients are supported in that manor, most are and soon all will be..
AVG does the job (overall) the best I have seen so far.

Thanks. I've read good reports about the program which is why I decided to use it instead of NAV. It is misleading re: e-mail scanning. It sounds like there is some manual tweaking that must take place first.
