Hello! I've just bought Finding Nemo pc game for my son. After installing when we went to play the game we found that the sound was speeded up. I then phoned the helpline on the packaging and was told I needed to update my audio driver - a SIS 7018 Wave. I found this device on the SIS download site and downloaded the driver (I think). It was a zipped file so Winzip unzipped it but now I don't know where to go from here. How do I install it? Grateful for any suggestions. Lorna.

    Relatively straightforward .......

Right click My Computer icon on desktop > Properties > Device Manager.

Locate Audio and your audio card > right click on card (SIS) > Properties > Driver > Update Driver.

Point the Wizard to the folder in which the unzipped files reside, selecting the sub folder for your OS if there are different folders for the various versions of Windows and follow the wizard through. Not sure of the exact wording, but that is the general gist.

Thanks Pete C, I've tried all this and I'm then told that windows cannot find more suitable software for the driver than I already have. So it looks like I don't need to upgrade although the helpline said that my version 5 was too old. Lorna.

Check the contents of the unzipped folder for an installer.

Just to be sure - you are selecting 'Install the driver from a list or specific location (Advanced) rather than 'Let Windows search .....' ?

Windows will not find the driver you downloaded unless you point it to the folder where you downloaded it using the Advanced option.

If you downloaded 7018_114 it is version 5.00.00.6140 for 98SE/Me and 5.10.00 6140 for XP, so maybe you have the latest anyway.

You don't mention which OS you are using.

Yes that's the way I did it. I did download 7018_114 so if I do have the latest driver I wonder why I was told I needed to update it. I hope my sound device is not completely out of date already! I'm running on XP. Lorna.

I rather suspect that 'update your audio driver' was an 'easy out' for the helpline.

If they have a web site you may find some help there.

    Is your SIS card configurable?

Have a look in Control Panel - if the audio is configurable there is likely to be an SIS icon there. Just a thought - I'm not familiar with SIS sound.

Hi, just thought I would let you know that I can get the correct sound on the game if I put back the slider to no acceleration in the dxdiag menu. Incidentally, exactly the same thing happened on my Dad's pc and he hasn't had that long either.
