    Hi,

    Despite having AutoScan=1 in my MSDOS.SYS it fails to run after a bad restart.

    Any ideas?

    Win98se, McAfee ISS6, IE6 SP1. I have 2 HDD fitted, C is a 6.4gb and D is a 40gb - windows is on the C drive.

    Thanks,

    Mick(UK)

    See if you have a file called scandisk.alt in your windows\command folder. If it's there, delete it and then see if it works.

    I'll throw in a couple of checks.....

    1] If using tweakui, check the Boot tab and make sure your autoscan dropdown is set correctly.

    2] From the startbutton run line type msconfig and on the general tab click on the advanced button and make sure you haven't disabled scandisk there.

    Even if these guys are set correctly, it never hurts to fiddle with them by changing them, applying the change and rechange them back. Sometimes they may say something "is "when it "isn't" The files and these options occasionally get out of sync. Fiddling with the options once again can help to ensure they are changed accordingly.

    =======

    Have you tested to make sure nothing funny is going on with scandisk?

    Can you scandisk in windows?
    Can you restart in dosmode and scandisk?
    Made sure you aren't cramped for space by emptying windows\temp, recycle bin, etc.

    ========
    Some have mentioned scandisk will autorun on a improper coldboot shutdown and not on a warmboot such as the cntl\alt\del option or the reset button. I never paid particular attention to the reason behind this or the fix, if there was one, but I thought it may be worth mentioning in case someone wishes to comment on the reason why.

    Sorry for not getting back sooner - I failed to get notification of your replies!?

    Thanks for the tips - I'm off to try them out now.
