re-install winXP

    I began re-installing winXP pro (upgrade) to fix some problems.

    there is an error during install...
    "unregmp2.exe Entry Point Not Found: Procedure Entry Point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL "

    then setup restarts.

    Windows wont start, it just jumps back into setup.

    I can't wipe HD. I need to access files on the HD but it is a laptop so I can't connect it to my PC.

    suggestions??

    is there a way to exract files off the laptop HD??
