Here are some excerpts from the instructions I am using on Windows XP:

Make sure your computer system is turned on with the Dual Serial I/O card inserted
Go to: Start |Control Panel |System |Hardware Tab| Device Manager Button
Double click on " Multifunction adapter "
Right click on "Generic Multifunction PC-Card"
    Select Uninstall
    Click OK
    Close Control Panel

    I do that..........no problems!

    Then:

Plug in the Dual I/O card into your computer. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will automatically start. Select "Install from a list or specific Locations" Click on Next

Under " Search for the best driver ", select "Include this location in the Search ", type or browse to the loaction of the Dual I/O drivers to the default location or point to the location you had chosen to unzip the drivers to.

When I do this, I get multple "bubbles" in my systray and it tells me my hardware is ready to use, but the " Multifunction adapter " is BACK! Is there a way to stop this "auto install "

Does your new hardware work properly? If so, the uninstallation and reinstallation of the Adapter may just be part of the process and it is working as it should.

If not, try disabling the adapter instead of uninstalling it.

You could also try temporarily terminating and disabling Plug and Play and/or Shell Hardware Detection services.

There isn't a "preferred method" here since I am suggesting trying something that will not harm your system but that I haven't tried myself .

If you have Pro, go to Start, Run, and type: services.msc

If Home, go to Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services.

You will see the 2 services I mentioned in the right pane. Double-click and stop and disable the service (one or both or a combination). My idea is that this may allow you to complete the installation of your software without new hardware being detected by XP and installed.

These services are important to the normal operation of your machine and they must be re-enabled at some point. Don't forget.

If you could give some details on the hardware make and model, I'd be happy to look around to see if anyone else has had the same problem.
