    There are two things I need some help on so if anybody can do so I'd be grateful.

    Firstly my icons for "My computer" and "Network Neighborhood" do not show their icons instead a small white box with the windows logo in it. It doesn't seem to affect anything. I tried to repair using TweakUI and "repair icons" but it didn't work.

    Secondly I cannot open JPEG files any more but I'm not sure where to get the required program.

    What did you do to find yourself in this new predicament, in reference to the other post you currently have on the board?

    Been cleaning the registry as suggested in that prior post?

    I'm just asking because I'm trying to determine if any method I suggest may be treating a secondary symptomatic issue when what you'll really need is a bigger primary fix.

    ===Icon Problem===
    Do a file find for shelliconcahe and when found delete it and reboot it will be rebuilt.

    Before doing a "File Find "
    Make sure you have the ability to view hidden files by adjusting preference options in....
    1>Click on My Computer icon or if in explorer>toolbar>view
    2>click on toolbars "View" category
    3>click on "Folder options "
    4>click on "View" Tab:
    5>and scroll to the [Hidden Files] section and enable or disable the options below by unchecking or checking as designated:
    "Do Not show hidden files "=unchecked
    "Do not show hidden or system folders "=unchecked
    "Show all Files "= checked
    "hide file extensions for known files "=unchecked
    Reboot

    Now hit your F3 key for the find popup and type in shelliconcache

    make sure your searching the c:\ drive and subfolders are checked.

    This file is usually located in c:\windows.

    When found delete it, reboot and it will be rebuilt.

    ==========Jpeg Issue=====
    Jpg association issue:[From the Archives:This has enough nfo and sublinks that one of the fixes will be your cure. Rather than type all the flavors of issues and the different methods of fixes, this will allow you to pick which ever one your most comfortable with.]

    ====In case this problem is related to your other problem====
    NOTE*Did you figure out and have you dealt with your other posted issue? Please update that link. I'm sure curious what incin.dll is and why it speaks in Japaneese. :)

    Dear Goddez1,

    Thanks for the help. I got the JPEG problem sorted out. However the icon problem persists. I tried the shelliconcahe but it didn't seem to make a difference.

    With reference to my other post, I don't think it is related that but it may be. And I have been cleaning the registry.

    Have you tried clicking on a blank space on the desktop and selecting "properties ". Click on the "Effects" tab and from within that tab clicking on the icons that represent your "My Computer" and "NetWork Neighborhood" icon and selecting "default ", apply and exit.

    If no joy, Restart Windows or hit F5 to put your changes into effect. For some reason, sometimes a restart won't show the new icons...they're being cached. Then the deletion of shelliconcache is recommended or if you have TweakUI installed, go to the Repair tab, and click the Rebuild Icons button, as you have done.

    ======
    If this doesn't do it I will have to look up what the default registry values are. (I have long since changed mine from the defaults to customized "XP wannabees ".

    Your most welcome, Paul. I guess win98 was sufferin' from that mysterious amnesia malady it get's from time to time.

    I'm glad this is behind you.
