My computer is working just fine going into standby pretty regularly and recovering with rarely a problem. I have two questions:
    (1) Do my scheduled apps such as a virus checker set for 2AM go on as scheduled.?
    (2) Will my WinFax pick up a fax sent to me during a standby phase?

I guess I could check those by setting my virus checker to go in a few minutes then set the standby. Then send a FAX from a fax machine elsewhere.

However, maybe the answers could help someone else, too.

Your machine is not likely to do anything when in standby. In this state, I believe, memory contents are retained, but no processes run.

An exception would be if you have a machine that can wake up when a signal is received from a specific port or device.

I don't use the task scheduler so I don't know if it works or not but when you create a task you are given the option to open the advanced options window right at the end of creating a task. In the advanced window, click on the settings tab and in the power management section put a checkmark next to the line that says "wake the computer to run this task ".

The question didn't refer to the XP task scheduler as I am aware. It was an app that schedules itself to run as required. For example, run a virus check or a SpyBot app at 3 AM, when I am not around

Should I use the XP scheduler to do that kind of operation?

tenbob - you may find that the app simply set itself up in the XP Scheduled Tasks to run at that time. That's what NAV did on mine when I asked it to run at a specified time/day every week.
