I`m not a great user of IE 6,prefering Firefox, but still have to use it for banking etc.
After a re-install of win 98SE,I`m left with IE5 which is now even more insecure and hard if not impossible to update easily, although I`ve now added secure encryption. Thus is there a fairly recent CD-ROM available to save that horrendous download needed to upgrade from 5 to 6? No doubt there will be still a few updates to add,but they should be fairly easy in comparison!.Many thanks!

If you're in the US or Canada you can order one from MS here . If you have any newer programs on cds' you might have a look at those that require IE (many do). One of them might have IE 6 on it. Also, check with your friends to see if they have a disc that has it.

Don't forget to go to Windows Update after installing IE 6 for all the security patches that have been issued in the past year.
P.S. It is possible you can get IE6 from the Earthlink CD's that Office Max usually gives out for free.

    IE6/CD-ROM

Sadly guys,I don`t live in the U.S. or Canada,so it looks increasingly like a lengthy download-so much bloat for so little improvement forsooth! Thanks anyway.

Go to shops that sell computer magazines. Most all computer magazines come with CDs. One might have IE6 in it.

Or pick up a Freeserve disk from PC World/Dixons if there is one in IOM - or ask your ISP for one.

    Thanks!

Oh dear, I don`t live in the U.K. either, but in the Isle of Man and we don`t have PC World or Dixons here!Plenty of big shops for the ladies tho! I`ll browse the local magazine shelves-I may be lucky there.

    Off Topic but.....

Well, in common with most Brits, the status of the I.oM. seems here to be misunderstood! It is a Crown Dependency and has not been part of the U.K. and in fact, the Manx parliament Tynwald is over 1,000 years old-pre dating the Wesminster lot somewhat! How else do you think we can arrange our own taxes? The UK is only really responsible for foreign affairs and defence-all the rest is all down, thank God, to local decision. Sadly,VAT is the same as the UK for other reasons, unlike the Channel Islands, but our income tax(max 18%) is lower, and our council tax, including water,is around £300 for most! Unemployment is very low,and there is a generally a desperate need for skilled/professional people, and whilst property is not cheap(similar to SE England),there is generally no bar to residency. Sorry to bore, but we do like to keep people informed! BTW,we don`t hang or flog people any more!
