Easiest way to fix this would be to reinstall Acrobat Reader . Should do the trick.

Mr Zander, I did re-download it, but I still get the same msg. I don't know enough about computers to fix it. What do you think?

What happens if you try to open Acrobat Reader from the start menu? If it opens can you use it to open the files? Either by file>open or by dragging one of the files into the Acrobat window?

    What OS are you using?

I just realized the forum we're in and I would guess these are files you're trying to open in IE. Try right clicking on the link and choose save target as. Once you've downloaded the file to your hard drive double click on it and see if it opens or try one of the methods I mentioned above. Does it work?

Molehill--I, too, am a little confused as to what these files are that you are trying to open with Acrobat Reader and why you have posted in the IE/OE Forum. Are they .pdf files? If not, ignore the rest of this post.
Zander has asked what OS you are using.
If these are .pdf files, and you use Win98 (or probably WinME), the default location for acrord32.exe is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe ". Perhaps you have it somewhere else, which might explain why it cannot be "found ". It is not necessary that acrord32.exe be in the default location, but it should be in the place that your PC expects to find it.
You could diagnose that (again in Win98) using Start|Settings|Folder Options|File Types tab|scroll to Adobe Acrobat Document (or Adobe Acrobat Forms Document)|highlight|Edit|Edit (again). What do you see in the line "Application used to perform Action "? Now compare that to what is in the line "Target" when you right click on the Adobe Acrobat shortcut in Start|Programs|Properties|Shortcut tab. They should read the same. If not change according to where your acrord32.exe file really is. (Run a Find on acrord32.exe.)

I didn't answer Zander about the os, because I didn't know what os meant..
    I have Windows98SE
Now maybe you can tell me what I need to do. Anything in pff acrobat, I cannot open, but right now I want to go to the IRS web site and print out a 1040 form.
    Thanks

Molehill--.pff files are not Acrobat Reader files.
    http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=pff&goButton=Go
But assuming you meant .pdf files, I often print out .pdf files from the IRS download site.
However you do have to have your PC set up to open .pdf files.
My earlier post should give you specific instructions to do that. And those suggestions assumed that you downloaded the .pdf file to your hard drive. And that you have installed Acrobat Reader in addition to downloading it.
HOWEVER, there may be a simpler procedure which you can try first. Find any .pdf file on your PC. Hold down Shift|right click on the .pdf file| "Open With... "|scroll to Acrord32|highlight|scroll to bottom of the window|check the box "Always use this program... "|Apply|OK.
If that does not work, then
    1) be sure you in fact have installed Acrobat Reader on your PC (if you do not know how to do that, post back)
    2) follow my earlier suggestions
    3) You can also download the IRS forms in different formats, not requiring Acrobat Reader
    http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/page/0,,id=10210,00.htmlI
    4) Your local library or bank should have most of the IRS files you need. In a larger city, the IRS will have an office offering a large selection of forms, plus you can order the forms over the telephone from the IRS. And AARP or VITA offices where you live will have the forms.
