All of a sudden, am having a number of problems with WMP. Message indicating an "unknown problem ", unable to successfully burn, etc. Previously had used the WMP with absolutely no problem. Have tried practically every suggested thought or idea from posts, with no success. Would appreciate any suggestions for program/s which can used to replace WMP. I'm ready to "go out" and buy a good, simple music cd burning program. Thanks a million ... :(

Nero seems to play best with XP from what I read on here.

People seem to like DeepBurner, and it's still free. I keep downloading the updates while it's still free, though I use Nero 6. Who knows? I may need it someday ;)

    WMP Replacement Program ...

Thank you for the suggestions. I will consider both Nero and DeepBurner.

None that I know of. I was tempted to install DeepBurner just to see what it looked like, but haven't yet.

Compatibility does not seem to be a problem for me with burner programs.

I use the native XP burner at times and also have Nero, CloneCD, GameJack, BlindWrite, Padus DiscJuggler, Alcohol 120%, and ISO Buster installed. Except for Nero failing to completely terminate sometimes (I need to use Task Manager), all of them work fine and don't interfere with one another. Note that Roxio is not in the list.

I'd say DeepBurner and Nero would become fast friends.

    Thanks Abraxas...
Will let you know how cozy they get. Noticed Alcohol 120% on your list.. n i c e program. Some day in the near future it will have a home on my HD.
Side note... Was installing WMP 9 on w98 two nights ago, I thought I seen CD Roxio verbiage pass through the install echo... not happy if true. Should not be an issue since all my burning is done on XP... but then I have WMP 9 on my XP .. hmm.

The XP burning engine is from Roxio. That may be why their other software seems to have so many problems. It seems that Roxio's software is less compatible with XP than software from totally different companies.

Just so I wouldn't be talking through my hat when recommending DeepBurner, I just installed it. Wrote a data CD, erased it, wrote one with Nero 6, erased it.

Not exactly an exhaustive test, but no blue screens, no raging incompatibility, fatal errors, bells, or whistles. They seem to work fine together.

For what it's worth, it uninstalled smoothly, too. It left the Astonsoft folder in Program Files (not unusual since, like all companies, they hope the folder to be used by one of their other products) and the DeepBurner folder inside that containing a log of my last burn (not removed because it didn't exist when the install.log was created).

As for the registry, the only entries remaining were the program's settings. That is not unusual, either, since many programs leave those entries in case the program gets reinstalled.

So, over all, it uninstalled as well as any.
