I have a strange problem and am clueless on where to go. I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

A customer of mine (I do web work) just installed a new server using Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition. There are 5 workstations that are all running Windows XP Home Edition. (no idea why - except for price?)

The problem is that only one of these workstations logs onto the server when the workstation is first booted up and the machine itself is logged onto. The rest of the stations get a username/password request from the server when an application is requested. Then the logon is fine.

I have mirrored the settings of the lone machine on the others and still no luck. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Please clarify the bolded part.

What happens if you do a persistant map of a resource on the server to each workstation?

And are we talking 'terminal server' things here? when an application is requested

    Hi Newt, thanks for replying.

This company leases copiers etc. and needed smtp service and other than that runs a few applications, such as Quickbooks, inventory software, ACT database.

The system does not use the DHCP service but each station has it's own IP address. On each station, including the server, all computers are visable in "Network Places"

Each station has shortcuts on the desktop for each of the above named programs. In the morning, each employee turns their computer on and logs on to their system. When all but one opens a shortcut to one of the above named programs they are prompted for their username/password. They have not logged onto the network. The ONE system logs into the server on startup, the others do not.
