I just got a Blue Screen and panicked!! I tried to roll back with system restore but it says I can't do it... I've tried yesterday, wednesday and I think Monday but none worked... I'm thinking I should start backing up my computer to my external but cannot find a backup option, I've seen it on other windows versions but can't find it on XP

And I don't remember what the blue screen said as I promptly shut my computer down and did a scan on it.

    Any clues?

should I just copy/paste certain files like email/documents or whatever in the mean time?

    Thanks in advance!!

All I did today was clear my cache folders too.

If your using XP Home the backup program isn't installed by default. You do have it on your XP cd though. Go here for instructions on how to install it.

You may have already done this, but for anyone reading this who hasn't shut off the auto-restart, enabled by default in both HE and Pro:

    Turn off auto restart
    Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup and Recovery
uncheck auto restart to prevent an endless loop of boots.

What caused you BSOD? Any ideas?

    Hi Johanna,

I have no idea what caused it. All I did was clear files...the usual: temp internet, cache, cookies. And then I'm working a bit later on and BAM there it was.. hasn't happened since so I don't know. I should have written down the error message but I just freaked out b/c that hasn't happened ever on this computer!

    Go figure!!!

    Thanks!! :D

Thanks Johanna. I've been meaning to do it a loooong time ago. Just did it now.

Kittie Cat - Check your Event Viewer to see if it provides any clues. Right click My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer.
