    Hi guys and gals

I have just downloaded SP2 for my w2k system. It was 20MB even when the bumph said it would be 10MB for a home computer. This took me 45 minutes. I also want to download some of the other security related patches, but before I do that I wondered whether it was possible to download and save these files.

In the event of losing my system, I will inevitable have to format and reinstall. I have all my software organised in CD's, including the downloaded free/shareware. In the event this were to happen, I would like to install my w2k followed immediately by SP2.

summarising.... my question is: is there a way to save some executable or intall file of SP2? I clicked install and it downloaded a small 500kb executable which when executed it went on to download and install all in one.

thanks for your time and sorry for the "round-about" way of putting this question accross :-#

Too late now. What you should have done, rather than use live update, was download the entire SP2, which you could have then saved on your hard drive, CD, or whatever. At this point I wouldn't bother. When SP3 comes out, you can download it (long time on a slow connection), or order it on a CD from Microsoft for about ten or fifteen dollars.

    HI obenton

thanks for your reply. next time I will take your advise. but...

how can I bypass the live update, there was only one link to click - no option to "save file" or "execute file ".

and, also, do you think the SP2/3 is enough or would you recommend all the other updates... there seem to be loads, no? or will SP3 include every update/patch to date.

thanks and keep up the good work

The file is available on the MS site. My recollection is that it is identified as being for users who want the complete file to install on many machines in a network.
