I apologize if this thread is posted somewhere else. I did a search and could not find it

Ok, I have Win Xp....flashed wrong bios on motherboard so I had to replace. Had to do new install of XP because of it, afterwards, 7.1 would not start....so I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times erased all from registry etc... finally saw your thread about removing GRE files and bingo it worked!!

Ok my question: I saved my old profile named 4nae4qtx.slt I have about 400 mb of emails saved so I am really hoping to be able to reload them all. I have a fresh install of 7.1 and have not created a profile yet. How do I set it up to recognize my old profile??

    Welcome to the Forum, mtv101!

    Hi mtv101,

Did you save the entire Profiles folder, i.e., did you save: Profiles\profilename\4nae4qtx.slt

Or did you save only the 4nae4qtx.slt folder.

I ask because it will make a slight difference in how you set up Netscape using your 4nae4qtx.slt folder.

Let us know, and we can go from there.

    Hi Mark,

O.K., a few extra steps, but here is the drill:

After installing 7.1, all you have now is the:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles ...correct?

    If this is the case:
Click on the Netscape Desktop shortcut, and when prompted by the Profile Manager, create a new Profile.
Close the Profile Manager, but don't start Netscape yet.

Navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles folder.
Now you will see the ....\profilename\*.slt folders which were just created.

    Next:
Remove the newly created *.slt (salted) folder to a temporary location, or delete it.
Copy the 4nae4qtx.slt folder, and paste it into the
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename folder.

Open the Mozilla folder and delete: registry.dat

To the new Netscape Desktop Icon add these command line switches, with one trailing space, to the end of the Target field: -p yourprofilename -quiet
It will look similar to this:
    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -p yourprofilename -quiet
The -quiet command disables the splash screen, so you might not wish to use that switch.

    Next:
    Open Netscape
The Profile Manager will prompt for a new Profile
Use the same name as the Profile you just created
If the new Profile you created is "Mark" then use "Mark" again. Netscape will then find your Profile.

    With Netscape open:
Check your Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
Ensure that the "Local directory" path points to the correct location. Do this for all Mail Accounts, the Local Folders, and Newsgroups.

    Close Netscape - Restart Netscape
All your Mail and Preferences should be intact.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona :D

    Way to go Mark!

FYI, if you save the entire Mozilla folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla

Then all that you have to do is delete the Mozilla folder on the new Netscape or Mozilla installation, and paste in the Mozilla folder from the old installation.

Then with Netscape open, delete the registry.dat file. That's it. Works when transfering from one PC to another, BUT... only if transferring the same Profile to the same OS.

    FWIW,

    Ramona :D
