    Hi Everyone

Anyone know of a way to substitute the sidebar AIM in 7.1 with a stand alone AIM? Currently, I created a bookmark that requires the download manager to open the old launch.aim from NS 4.x and then runs AIM.

Is there a way to execute files from a bookmark? I couldn't bookmark AIM directly ... it just opens a "save file" window

    Thanks

    Hi trephin,
    http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/browser.html#exe
This is a security precaution to help avoid malicious software getting onto your system or network. Not allowing a program to run directly from an Internet location allows you to make sure that what you are running is indeed what it seems, and to scan the file with anti-virus software if necessary.

I don't use NIM or AIM, but you might check out this page:

    trephin,

I happened to see this information on another Forum, and thought of your question. Is this how you are set up:

Create a bookmark in Mozilla that points to your launch.aim file. The Launch AIM bookmark is on the Personal Toolbar and goes to:
    file:///C|/Program Files/Netscape/Users/username/launch.aim

Using the bookmark, Mozilla allows setting up a Helper Application pointing to the default application for:
    Mimetype application/x-aim
    Description: AOL Instant Messenger Launch
    Extension: AIM
The Windows Filetype "AOL Instant Messenger Launch" should open .aim files with C:\PROGRA~1\NETSCAPE\COMMUN~1\PROGRAM\AIM\AIM.EXE

Although this is targeted for Mozilla, it should also work in Netscape 7.
