Do not know if this is an Outlook Express or a Windows Version subject.

    Here is the background:

    1. On my computer running Windows XP Pro we use Outlook Express to compose e-mail.
When we insert a picture and select the folder where the image is located we see Thumbnail views of all the picture to choose from.
    That is great.

    2. My neighbor is using Windows XP Home Edition and Outlook Express to compose e-mail.
When they insert a picture and select the folder where the image is located they get a detail listing of the file names.
This is not good, as you cannot "see" and select the picture.

    Question:

Can we change something to bring up the thumbnails ?

They need to click view while in that folder and select thumbnails from the list.

OOPS - we must have goofed !

Sorry, we didn't explain the problem we are having in eneough detail.

    We'll try again.

    Your suggestion works fine when:
We are using "Windows Explorer" to view contents of a folder.
We have a choice of viewing "details" or "thumbnails" etc.

However - get into "Outlook Express"

When I select "Insert Picture" and select the folder it shows
    "thumbnails" just fine.
    I'm using Windows XP Pro.
    ********************************************
But when we use apperently the same Outlook Express program
(Version 6) on the machine with Windows XP Home Edition then the thumbnails do not show - only details.

There is no "View" menu in Outlook Express.
We have to drop down, go to Windows Explorer, view the pictures. remember the file name - go back to Outlook Express
and finally select the Picture - if we remembered the name !

    That is a real pain.

    Question now is:

There must be a way to accomplish this - is there ?

You are making this difficult and you don't have to do that. The view tab that was mentioned would be the file in which the picture is located, not on Outlook Express. Maybe, My Pictures, My Documents, any file that contained the picture you want to insert.

When you choose to insert Picture, you get the menu to find the picture. So, the file window that contains the picture is the one you want to change to "Thumbnails" rather than details,or icons. Then you will be able to view the Thumbnail before you click the final to insert.

Am I missing something or does this not answer your question?

    Finally it works

    Ok, thanks for the help.
    I tried that - and I tried that - and I tried that !
    Didn't work.
The minute I returned to Outlook Express it stopped.

You told me what needed to be done - halfway !
Finally someone told me the rest of the story.

Yes, you do select "View ", then "Thumbnails ".

However, go next to "Tools ", then "Folder Options"
Select "Apply To All Folders" - select "Yes" - and finally say "OK ".
My computer had never been set up to do that, so each time we
quit and restarted Windows same old problem would occur.

    Works good now !
