Is there any way to convert a .wdb, Works database, file to another database format: db, mdb, etc... ? I need to do this wihtout being able to export the file from Works as a CSV or DB file. I don't have Works.

    Thanks.

Which program do you intend to use to view the database? - it may well be capable of importing a Works .wdb which can then be saved in another format.

I don't have Access loaded so cannot try this out.

Thanks PeteC, but I've tried Access. I've searched for a program that will directly convert the wdb. All the solutions are based on exporting the wdb from Works, which I don't own, and wouldn't install if I did. Why Microsoft would format the database to not be compatible with their mainstream products is beyond me. The closest I can come to a solution is viewing the wdb in a hex editor. The data is there, but in a very inconvenient form.

PS - I can view the database in just about any other database format: dbf, mdb, or any other major format. Works seems to be unique, although I'm certainly not an expert.

There are a variety of 3rd party apps that will do the deed but they all (at least any I could find) cost $$ with one exception. Google should be able to open the .wdb file and allow you to save it as something you can work with.

May not be 100% accurate or may be. I don't have any files to play with.

Thanks, Newt. I'm not sure I understand how I can get Google to open a wdb file on my hard drive.

How did you find any 3rd party apps? I came up blank. One of those would probably do the trick, as I only have one file and there's bound to be a shareware app that would work.

    Thanks again.

Problem solved. A friend has Conversions Plus 6.05, and he converted the wdb for me. A nifty program. Wish I could afford the $70.

Thanks to all for the help.
