I am tring to transfer files from my old ME to an XP using the Direct-Parallel cable to LPT1's and instructions for "Create a new connection" found in Help.

I have the proper(?) yellow cable from my old Laplink and I set up the XP as a Guest to properly access the ME as the Host. However I get an error message that a connection cannot be made. The helpline at Dell has not been any help. My IT guru says he has done it from a 98 to XP but not from a ME. Supposedly there is nothing that needs to be done to the ME host, other than having it turned on to the Desktop and hooked up to the XP with the special cable.

Is it possible or do I have to fall back to PCanywhere over a modem?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks,

If you can't get that working a $10 ethernet card in each computer and a crossover ethernet cable will do it.

    Rick and Steve,

Thanks for the help. I guess I'll throw out the cable idea.

    Have a good one.
