    Hi All,

I hope this hasn't already been covered somehwere...

I have Netscape 7.1 installed on Win 2000. In the past week my bookmarks.htm file has been overwritten twice. Nasty!

The first time I couldn't do anything to sort it out so performed a clean reinstall to fix.

This time I tried adding my bookmarks.html file from home (MacOSX, Netscape 7.1). When Netscape started the bookmarks had been erased again.

The file is still there in Documents and Setting/mike.breeze/app.../Mozilla/...../bookmarks.html - it is just empty.

    Anyone seen anything like this?

    Cheers

    Breezy

    Welcome to the Forum, Breezy!

    Hi Breezy,

Did you have a crash, and then the Bookmarks were lost?

    What you might try:

Create a new Folder on your root directory and name it Bookmarks
Copy your bookmarks.html file to this folder
Next, back up your prefs.js file

Open Netscape 7.1, clear the Location Bar, and type in about:config
    Now look for this Preference:
    browser.bookmarks.file
Right click the Preference and select: Modify
    Add this Value: C:\Bookmarks\bookmarks.html
    (or whatever your root directory)

Close Netscape, and the edit will be written to your Preferences.
    Open Netscape
    Are your Bookmarks there?

I have my Bookmarks in this folder, and by adding the Preference to all Netscape, and Mozilla Preferences, the Bookmarks file is shared by all browsers. No more copy/paste to keep each browser current.

Are you by chance using a Theme other than Modern? If so, revert back to the Modern Theme and see if this has any effect. It may not, but no harm done in trying.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona :D

    creating new pref in file

    Hi Ramona

Great to see a solution to the multiple profiles sharing bookmarks, but I don't have the browser.bookmarks.file string in my pref.js and I've forgotten (and misplaced! groan) the instructions for when you helped out with starting Courier email from NS/Moz.

Can you please tell me how to generate the string again?
