When we work with Windows applications, the cursor changes.
The cursors are defined in the Control Panel applet above.
You can change the cursor for Normal Select, Help Select, Busy
and so on. I describe these as "Cursor Classes ".
What I would like to know, is how to add a new Cursor Class
    or amend/delete it ?
Cannot find anything in KB or on the Net, so thought I would
ask the very able people here.
    Thanks for any help.
    regards

I'm not sure whether I'm understanding you completely or not. If you've downloaded or made cursors of your own and you want them to show up there so you can use them, all that's necessary is to copy them to the windows\cursors folder. You can delete them from there too.

One more thought. For those that you want to delete, if you prefer to just remove them from the list but don't want to delete them, just move them out of the cursors folder to another location.

Hallo Zander - thanks for your time and reply.
My problem is not with changing cursors for
existing "Cursor Classes ", rather adding to the classes
themselves. For example, one existing "Class" is Move another is Busy and another is Link Select and another is Unavailable etc
I want to extend the "Classes" shown and then choose pointers for them.
For example, I would like to add a class called "Desktop Shortcut" and assign a pointer to it. So, if I hover over a Desktop Shortcut
with the mouse, the pointer should change to the one I selected.
    regards

Seems to be a darkroom subject.
I cannot find anything relevant on the net.
I was once able to get the effect I needed but due to
    overwrites, I lost it.
I do not like icons on my desktop that overlay my background.
So, I only have 2 shortcuts (.lnk) - My Computer, Neighborhood and a .pif file.
Each icon is down at the bottom of the screen and
each icon is transparent - so they do not show up normally.
Before, I could sweep the desktop and the pointer would
change (to red) if I was over a hidden icon.
I would like to return to this option.
Maybe I did it before with Folder options - cannot remember.
    regards

Sorry, but I'm lost on this one. I've never seen it done and can't find any thing relevant on the net. Have you double checked all of the options in the mouse applet to see if there's something there? Perhaps you had a program of some sort running that did it?
The only thing I can think of that would be even remotely similar would be to set windows to open files with a single click. Doing this would cause the icon to be selected (thus highlighted) when you put your cursor on it. Don't know what the outcome would be with hidden icons though.

I believe I understand what you mean, merlin.
In Folder Options, under the General tab, click on the Custom, then Settings. You should have another window open. Towards the bottom you will see 'Click items as follows'. Select 'Single Click to Open an Item', you should be able to select 'Underline icon titles only when I point at them'.
    Hope this helps.

I was sort of thinking the same thing (seems to me the color it used was the same as the color you had designated for "hover" in IE) but then I read merlins last post again and noticed that he said when he held the cursor on the icon the "pointer" would turn red. I took this to mean cursor. That was the main reason I was thinking he was maybe using a program of some sort. Guess we'll have to wait until merlin shows up again.

Mark and Zander - many thanks for your replies with help.
Mark's suggestion jogged my memory and I am now pleased
to have a solution - I must have figured out a way about two years ago but then forgotten how.
As far as extending the types of cursors, I am pretty well convinced they are hard wired into explorer.exe
    regards and thanks again
