When doing all the things to the computer regarding the previous thread about fixing the forward in Messenger, the bookmarks in my Netscape 4.7, disappeared.

I've been using Opera lately and hadn't noticed that there were no bookmarks in my Netscape.

I copied the "old" profile to my "holding tank" and it overwrote other things I had saved in that folder. I do have my IE favourites from a long time back, but I don't have my Netscape bookmarks in that profile, so I can't just copy and put back into the new profile.

I do, however, have the bookmarks saved both to diskette, and the most update saving is in "my documents" which have even the most recent bookmarks. There are about 100-150 of them. The bookmarks, though, are saved in a text format. When I open the saved file, it is a listing of bookmarks in text. That is fine, and I can use them (thank goodness) but I want to put my bookmarks back into Netscape 4.7 new user profile, where they belong, and in the proper format.

Netscape has been my main browser for a few years, so these are my most important bookmarks and that is why I kept them saved so often. A link to that saved "copy bookmarks" is in both my IE and Opera, so I can access them, even though the link, of course, is the text format.

I thought we were through. :)

As part of the re-registering with Sympatico another window has shown up under my desktop, with an icon on it for Network Neighbourhood. I'm working on getting that straightened out.

    Whew. Does it ever end?

    Hi Pat,

If you saved your Bookmarks through:
Bookmarks | Edit, then it's a simple matter to Import them back to Navigator. However, if your Bookmarks text file is merely a listing of Bookmarks which you have saved to text, then you are out of luck.

There are third party Bookmark converters around, which can convert IE Favorites to Bookmarks, or even Opera Hotlists to Netscape Bookmarks:
    Bookmark Priest
    Bookmark Converter
    IEConverter

If you saved your Bookmarks through the Bookmarks | Edit , then all that is necessary is to click on:
Bookmarks | Edit Bookmarks | File | Import
Navigate to your "Holding Tank" and select your Bookmarks.txt file. Your Bookmarks will be imported into Navigator.

    Thank goodness, it worked! :)

It starts out looking differently, but it is all there in the same format. As a matter of fact it is there twice. There is now a drop down menu under bookmarks with a "personal toolbar" listing, from which the bookmarks menu drops down, as well as another bookmarks for...menu.

Thanks. There is still some mess up due to the re-registering which I haven't figured out yet, but it is a general computer problem, not a Netscape one, so I'm trying elsewhere to get it fixed.

That was really too bad. The re-registering wasn't necessary and would have saved a lot of problems.

Oh well. I have learned quite a bit doing this excercise.

    Thank you again.

    Pat
