Well, its kind of hard to explain but ill do my best.

I recently formatted my drive to get rid of the sloppy WinME and install Win2k fresh. Wise choice, youd think. Heres my problem:

Everytime i start my computer, windows seems to "forget" what i did to it last time. Everytime i restart, i have to reinstall my cable modem drivers, put my res back up to normal and switch my refresh rate back. It "remembers" when i install new programs, or move files around, but it seems to struggle with drivers and desktop resolution. I could deal with installing my cable modem each time, but this means i cant install my sound card at all. ( "Restart your computer to complete installation "..... i restart and it forgets i installed.)

Ive tried on different user accounts on different access levels (including admin), but no change. I tried installing Service Pack 2, but that resulted in me being unable to do anything with the internet due to svchost.exe (or similiar) causing errors. I formatted again, but still to no avail.

Its driving me nuts... any help at all would be appreciated. (Note that the service pack got it to "remember" desktop resolution, but it changed nothing else apart from causing the svchost errors).

Best bet at this point is to format and install again from scratch. Sounds like something didn't go right the first time.

When you format, be sure to let the system do an exaustive examination of the drive.

I did format. Im on my second clean format. The first format is described above. I installed the SP2, and got the svchost errors. I formatted AGAIN, fresh install of Win2k, and thats where i am now.

May be completely off beam but have you looked in your BIOS for a setting that says "Plug and Play O/S installed" and set this to yes ?

I'd make sure this was on and also FLASH the motherboard's BIOS if possible

Please keep us informed as this is one of those ones that's excited my curiosity !
