Hi! I am running Netscape 7.1 on Windows XP and have had no problems until two weeks ago Nestcape has just started dissappearing at random. I mean I will be surfing (like now) and I look up and I am back at my desktop-no error, no message, just gone-closes without a trace. It just disappears. I have no idea what is going on or what precipitates this problem as it happens randomly but is becoming much more frequent (now it is up to like 10 times a day and it really hurts when I am on ebay bidding on an auction :). The only other error I am receiving (much less frequent however-like once a week) is a gklayout.dll in Netscape and then it crashes also, but at least I know it is going to happen because it notifys me. Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be going on here? I do not even know where to begin to look for a fix because there is no error or a place I can pinpoint the disappearing act to like a specific webpage or action, it just happens sporadically. Any information would be greatly appreciated and thanks ahead of time.

    Welcome to the Forum, Maria81897!

    Hi Maria81897,

Close Netscape and Quicklaunch, and delete these two files:
    compreg.dat
(located in your C:\Program File\Netscape\Netscape\components folder)
    xul.mfl
(located in your C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt folder

Also delete the entire chrome folder, located in the *.slt folder

If the above doesn't stop the crashes/disappearing, then create a new Profile. Guideline HERE

    Maria,

I have been following this NG Thread on GKLAYOUT.DLL, and thought of you and your crashes:
    snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/c189g5$61t23@ripley.netscape.com

Note that creating a new Profile is considered pretty futile by Leonidis Jones, Netscape Champion. This seems to be an elusive error, for which no workaround has yet been found. I have found several bugs on GKLAYOUT.DLL, some of them 2 years old. It seems that nothing definite has been targeted as to the cause of this error:

    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144921
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194582
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201406
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221975
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225046
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=234412

I'm certain there are more, and not all of the above relate directly to your error.

Maybe if you add your problem to the above NG thread, you at least would be relating to Netscape, that other users are experiencing this error. Be sure to note your OS.
