Running Outlook Express on Windows XP Home. I do use the preview pane, I like it, have script blocking, av, do not open attachemts.

For the last 5 years + from windows 98 on up, the preview pane in outlook express presented a paper clip icon on the right side, when selected gave options to open or save to disk. Always saved to disk those attachments from known sources, scanned with av, then opened. Never been a problem.

Now, the paperclip icon no longer appears on right side of preview pane.

If I double click the message, I get the opened message with the attachment in the attachment line. If the attachment right clicked there is no option to save to disk or scan.

Can anybody help me with this? I'd like to get the paperclip icon back and the save function restored.

    Any response is appreciated.

In Outlook Express, go to View>Layout and put a check in "Show Preview Pane Header." Click OK. That should restore the area where the paperclip is displayed.

Miz: Would you like to watch while I smack myself on the side of the head?

Duh, I never even noticed the preview pane header was gone too. Just looking for the missing paper clip!

Of course restoring the preview pane header restored the paper clip.

    Sometimes I'm such a simpleton!

    Thanks for your help.

You're quite welcome. Don't worry, we all have those "little lapses "...some of us on a regular basis. ;)
