In Excel 2000, I usually have 2 or 3 files open, and I work on them alternately during the day. I like to see an Excel icon for each file in the Taskbar, making it easy to jump back and forth. To do this, I must click Tools> Options> View> Windows in Taskbar. BUT.... then when I close Excel, the option gets unchecked. Each day I must recheck this option. Seems like it should stay on. Any ideas? Thanks/// GG

What OS? XP-pro (and probably Home as well) defaults to 'grouping' mutiple instances of the same app (which I don't like either and turned off) and it certainly might be causing the PC to revert to that behavior.

Actually I am using Win2K Pro. Funny thing is, last year Excel behaved as I wanted. The only thing I changed was about a thousand patches to the OS!!! Would that do it?

Yup. Patch #973 was terrible about causing this.

Seriously - very possible that the patching process is the guilty party.

Try a couple of very general fix-things.

start~run~cmd followed by chkdsk /r and answer Y(es) to doing the deed at next reboot then reboot. If still causing problems,

start~run~sfc /scannow with your 2K install CD in the drive.

And as usual with one-off problems like this, delete all temp files, temporart internet files, cookies then download, update, and run ad-aware and spybot (links in my signature).
