lately when I delete files from my recyle bin, I can hear them deleting but the recyle bin looks like it has files in it but when I click on empty recycle bin it is greyed out and I have to restart my computer and then it is clean.
I think it started happening after the last windows explorer update but I don't know if that was the cause or not.

has this happened to anyone else and can you suggest what to do? thank you. :)

Hi Shortgal10 - Welcome to the Board :)

Your Recycle Bin may well be corrupted look here under 'Recycle Bin' for several possible solutions .....

Don't think the last Internet Explorer (not Windows Explorer I fancy) update has any bearing on this.

I downloaded the replace/repair recycle bin and added it to my registry. I hope it works but I will have to wait and see as it does not happen every time I empty the recycle bin.

    thank you very much. :)
