    Best Free Browser: Mozilla 1.6

    Do you pine for the good old days when Netscape Communicator was the best free browser going? Check out Mozilla 1.6. Created by Mozilla.org, the open-source project that took stewardship of the Netscape code in 1998, it offers pop-up ad blocking, tabbed browsing, zoom controls, chat, and a mess of other features you won't find in Internet Explorer. The installation file is a hefty 12MB download, and support is strictly via FAQ or info from other users; but once you try Mozilla, you'll never go back to IE.

    I knew that!

    Hi all I must say that 1.6 is a good browser! But I have not found to much different from netscape 7.2 except that everything works (so far)! Only been using it for about 3 weeks! and all is well. There are a few things I miss, First is the little icons in your bookmarks, netscape had the sights icon to the left of the sight, it made it a little easear to find the sights that you visited often. 2nd there is no tab at the top of bookmarks to hide bookmarks. yes you can use the gripper on the side to hide it, but its hard to find when you have it closed. A nice feature to have would be lables for your bookmarks (colors) like you have in your email that would make finding them a little better !
    Thanks again Ramona for the help on my profile and getting my jmc. working! its nice to have it back.

    sutsujsti,

    Full Favicon Implementation
    In Mozilla 1.6, full favicon support was implemented into Mozilla; however it is only partially enabled. For favicons to appear in every possible place, including those of sites you haven't visited in years, add the following lines to your user.js:

    user_pref( "browser.chrome.favicons ", true);
    user_pref( "browser.chrome.load_toolbar_icons ", 2);

    // 0 = never, 1 = when in cache, 2 = always
    Use F9

    You might select your most frequently used Bookmarks and include them in folders. Then save them as a Tab Group. I do this for easy access.

    The lack of the tab that gets me to my Bookmarks in the side bar is the single reason I stick with Netscape 7.1

    I am using Mulberry for my IMAP access at the moment. When Muitiple Identities is properly implemented I might switch back.

    Mulberry has no persistent cahe in online mode and behaves badly when the connection goes down.

    But it does spellcheck as you type, which I like.
