A computer at home has developed a strange problem. My wife went to print out a web page that should take up 2 pages of A4 on an epson inkjet.

The first page came out ok, the second was unitelligable characters, then the printer motors just carried on working until I pulled the plug.

I assumed a corrupted print queue so I rebooted the computer and reset the printer. As soon as the machine had booted up, (but before anyone had logged on) the same thing happened, churning out the same web page, then a page of stuff.

I suppose there is a bad spool file somewhere that needs deleteing but I dont know where to begin looking for it.

I have done a full virus check, and found a few pieces of ad-ware but nothing obvious. The Virus defs were about 2 weeks out of date, they are up to date now.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Via control panel
    Printers and faxes
    double click on the printer
and from the popup click on the Button named "Print "
There should be options to purge or cancel printing jobs.
(Thats if you have jobs pending or listed. These or this job will need to be highlighted)

NOTE*You may also have access to the "printers and Faxes" via an icon from the startmenu.

If there is a printer icon in the system tray, right click, choose properties which will bring up the print jobs box. Highlight the one you want to stop and right click and choose "cancel ". It may take a few moments to delete the temp files, but the job should go away.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, the system tray is empty of printer icons and the Control panel applet gives no indication of print jobs in progress. That's whyu I thought about a corrupted spool file somewhere.

I asked hubby who has dealt with this problem a zillion times. Epson also coensidently, although Network shared. He's always cursing that printer for one thing or another. He say's....

The only thing that works every time is to pull the paper out of the printer and reboot the computer up once in safemode and than reboot in normal.

I don't know what logic is behind this but he insists this is the cure and I MUST pass it on. So here it is for what it's worth.

    I wonder if it works......:)

    My suggestion...
Empty your c:\windows\temp file. Qued jobs normally are stored here possible in the form of named *.tmp file beginning with "emf***.tmp. At least in my case using an HP.

In the case of Epson they appear to have the extension *.jrl short for Jornel Files.

Just reporting what I've seen happen by doing experimental test print jobs on my own personal setup. Yours may be different.

The only other solution I can come up with is:
    Uninstall priner
completely disconnect it from the comp
    Reboot the comp
reinstall the printer, following the manufacturer's directions (some have specific orders to perform the steps)

    Ann's husband's way sounds easier!

be sure to post back and let us know what worked! Thanks! :)

    How about another option....
Does your Epson popup a little Utility monitor box. The thing that display how much ink you have and the status of your print job.

It has three buttons on it much like media players Stop Pause and Forward buttons. Sorta' like a button with a black box symbol on it followed by a button with two lines followed by a button with an arrow head. These are the Cancel, pause, ?skip forward?

If you hit the Black Boxed icon a message box will come up asking if you really want to cancel the job. I suggest you say YES. In theory this will clear the que.

If you don't have this I think you can open it via your printers "properties" options on a tab called "Utility ". The thing is called a "Status Monitor ".

I hope this makes sense. I've only had one cup of coffee today and with that I'm off to get another cup now.....

Just noticed that there is a folder shortcut in the startmenu>programs listing:

    Via: Startbutton>programs>epson

and within that folder is an icon for Epsons Spool Manager. Perhaps you may have similar and this route would be the way to go.

I may have to experiment with this thing myself to see if I can cure my husbands woes. It looks like theres something in there called a Remote Spooler/Despooler (assume) for network printing.
    Hmmmmm...

    Grunty,

I've run across this problem a few times myself. The only thing that works for me is to unplug the cable from the back of the printer. I've tired deleting the unfinished jobs, pulling the power cord, and restarting the system with no luck. The printer always goes back to the print job. Leave the cable unplugged for a couple minutes and see what happens. Like I said , it's worked for me on my Lexmark and HP printers.
