I have been using a freebie download internet answering machine for a month or so with no problems. They sent a caller ID upgrade download and I THINK (don`t know this) that it had some sort of a conflict and ******* up my Internet Explorer operation. With the good help from this board I`ve got it back in shape. I have removed the Call Wave and I am not presently using it. A query to the Call Wave help site got, among other things, this reply.

If you have an older version of Windows 95, you need to
install a minor Windows upgrade to use CallWave.

If you are using Windows 95 version 4.00.950 or 4.00.95A
you need to install the "Winsock" patch program.

My version of windows is 4.00.950B
Is this in your opinion an older version and do I need the down load?
I asked them this same question and got the same form letter E mail they sent the first time.
    So much for automation,Eh,
I would like to reinstall the Call Wave download but right at the present I`m a bit gun shy.

    No more for them..

I would advise you to quit while you're ahead. The author doesn't seem very responsive and the software doesn't seem too friendly either.

I went through a similar situation with another piece of freeware and when I upgraded my Winsock connection per their advice, I lost my Internet connection completely. Nothing I could do would restore it although I admit i didn't try very long. I use GoBack so I just rolled back to when it worked and hosed that software off the drive. That was on a machine running Win95 original version. You having Win95B shouldn't need the upgrade anyway and I suspect they have other problems.

It's your decision pal, I'd dump 'em.

My sentiments exactly, guess I just wanted reassured. At least I found out I have 95B, I thought that`s what it was.
I`m not like the guy who dialed a 900 number for financial advice, they advised him not to dial 900 numbers.
    Thanks much!
