Hello, my xp laptop has had so many problems its rediculous. I have xp professional, and i recently had to use the boot disk to repair my boot.ini file. Thats just the tip of the iceberg. I cannot add a printer, or a network connection. Everything works at my office though. I use a linksys wireless access point router w/ a 4 point switch. I use the same router for both my home and office (not physical router). When i go into my network connections at my home, the folder for printers and network connections are both blank. When i try to add a connection, i go into the wizard and hit next at the first screen. I get four choices, and i choose connect to the internet. The next button is disabled somehow. I could click it until the cows come home and nothing happens. The back button works just fine, and the cancel button is just dandy. Obviously, i can't get online. Apparently i have viruses galore on my computer, but norton says i'm fine. I have the new norton and the firewall, definitions updated when they need to be. There was a windows xp security update icon on the bar in the bottom right corner of my screen, and before i could get to it...POOF...gone. I really need some help here....O by the way i use a netgear wirelss card but it's always worked fine.

    HELP!!!

If it works at Dad's office, and not at home for you, perhaps you don't have the necessary permissions. Might want to check your user account.

With the PC connected to the router/switch and running with a logged on user, do the following and post the contents of c:\config.txt in this thread.

    start~run~cmd
    ipconfig /all > c:\config.txt

This sounds like a permission problem as people have already said permissions can give the strangest of strange problems.
