    Hi,

I would like to download Mozilla and see how it stacks up against my Netscape 7.1. My only concern is that, unbenownst to me, I seem to have acquired several Mozilla files as part of the latest Netscape package. Is it possible that Mozilla files will interfere with the proper functioning of either Mozilla or Netscape? And do you think it's worth looking into Mozilla when I already have its first cousin, Netscape? Some friends of mine think Mozilla is the cat's pajamas (no, I'm not THAT old). I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.

Just install Mozilla into a separate directory (than Netscape), and you will be fine. I would also recommend you to create a separate profile for Mozilla, test it out first.

    Hi Walter,

I agree with your friend that it is the "cat's pajamas ", and I am that old! ;) Well, almost...

Mozilla 1.6 is a more stable browser than Netscape 7.1. You will however, be giving up NIM and the ability to access Netscape Webmail from within the Mail & Newsgroups component. No biggie for most of us.

Mozilla is also available in Zip format, whereas you simply create a Mozilla 1.6 folder, unzip Mozilla into this folder, drag the mozilla.exe file to your Desktop and create a shortcut, then you're up and running.

Mozilla 1.6 Full Installer 12.0 MB
Mozilla 1.6 Zip File 10.8 MB
    Release Notes

One note of importance: Netscape and Mozilla must not share the same Profile, as there are incompatibilities which cause serious problems.

On my first Mozilla install, I moved the Netscape Profile Name folder out of the Profiles folder, to a temporary location: C:\......Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename
Once I had Mozilla set up I moved the Profile Name folder back to the Profiles folder. This removes the possibility of Mozilla grabbing your Netscape Profile.

    OR

Create a new Profile before you install Mozilla, otherwise it will grab your Netscape Profile.

    Trying out Mozilla

Thanks for your most helpful answer to my question about trying out Mozilla. What stopped me in my tracks was your information that the Mozilla download is 12 MB. Even the zipped version clocks in at 10 MB, and with my dial-up modem that's a lot of download. I plan to get cable internet someday, but for that I need a new computer because mine doesn't have enough memory for it (only have 64 MB RAM). So I may have to wait. :p
