My friend is having a problem with his PC. Someone did something and now he has internet problems with something like this missing:
    : dynamic link msnp32.dll
which meansn he can't access Microsoft Network...that mean anything to you?

How can I sort this. His PC is all in Spanish, so error messages are not always obvious to me. I'm 90% sure he is on 98.

Thanks for the link Brett. I have read the pages and think my friend may not feel that confident, I have mailed him a copy of the file I copied from my win98se disk - can he simply paste that into the correct folder, reboot and iot will all work? Or does he have to use the System File Checker Tool?

That should be OK. Suggest that he moves his copy to another folder and then replaces it with your copy rather than allowing an overwrite.

OK he cant find what folder that should go in - I am on WinXP so difficult to help him. I guess his serch does not find it as it is a hidden file - where should it go if he has default system drive of c:/

    Thanks

OK he did a search in the c:/windows/system folder and the file was not there (unhidden file showing). SO he put the file I sent him in that folder. However, upon reboot the file is again missing?

Any ideas why this is happening?

Remove and reinstall the Client for Microsoft Networks using the Network tool in Control Panel.
Go into Control Panel, then Network, click on Client for Microsoft Networks, then click on Remove.
Now click on Add in the very same window, a new window {titled Select Network Componet Type} will open. In this new window {Select Network Componet Type} click on Client, then on Add, a new window will appear {titled Select Network Client}.
In this window {Select Network Client}, click on Microsoft, then click on Client for Microsoft Networks to the right, then click on OK.
He may be prompted for the windows Cd.
If a message pops up about a newer version of a file, click on Yes to keep it. A reboot will be required.
