    Hello

    Can anybody tell me what this error log message means, what might have caused it and is it anything about which I ought to be concerned? It suddenly appeared as an `icon' on my desktop. Given the logged time, I can accurately say that, at the logged time, I was visiting one of three recipe sites looking for some subsitutions for buttermilk... a rather innocuous bit of surfing!

    I do note the mention of Java. I was using Internet Explorer at the time. I have Sun's Java Plug-in 1.4.2_03 installed, thought I had more but seems not.

    My OS is Win 98SE and while I thought I had Java installed I can find reference only to the foregoing, to wit:

    In Program Files: Common Files\Java;
    Java;

    In Windows: Java folder
    Sun folder within the Applications folder.

    Control Panel: Java Plug In

    Frankly I find Sun's Java web site very confusing and am never sure what I should download and install.

    Thank you

    Looks like a possible corrupt install of Sun Java or a fault on the site.

    The install file is to be found here - Free Download - Get it Now.

    Buttermilk substitute

    I know this is facitious but here goes anyway. For a buttermilk sub. use regular milk and add some lemon juice and it will curdle the milk into a sub for the buttermilk.

    sorry for the light hearted intrusion and I won't bother you again. :D

    Here is a shot worth trying, Start\Run, type in SFC and Press Enter. Let the System File Checker scan for altered files and see if IMAGEHLP.DLL shows up. From what I understand the exception took place outside of the Sun VM, and seemed to be accessing that file.

    imagehlp.dll

    Hi Markp62

    Ran the System File Checker and didn't see subject file. It does exist in Widows]System folder.

    A couple of other Image* files did show asking to be verified.

    Thanks

    And to bobmc32, no problem, a little levity never harms anybody. I did find the substitution...serveral in fact ... for a friend in England who cannot buy buttermilk in her local stores. Strange!

    It was a reach anyway, I would go along with PeteC's advice, it could be just the website.

    JAVA

    Thanks again Mark p62

    I'm inclined to agree re web site. In all my years of computing since pre-windows days, I've never seen - or had - an error log appear on my Desktop.

    Being Java illiterate, I gues I needed reassurance. Besides, I've reached those years of life where ye olde brain has seen its better days. :)

    My $.02

    I have not seen any mention of running things like an Anti-Virus, Spyware and Trojan/Worm checks.

    Web site maybe. But maybe you have not seen all of the new trouble causing, system invading Viruses, Trojans and Worms either.

    That is possible. If it were me I would be doing some serious system checking.
