IE6 Sp1 Problems With REF Winsock

What is Winsock? What's its purpose?
Has anyone heard of a utility called "WinsockXPFix.exe "? Is it safe to run on Windows 98 SE? AND Will it correct problems with IE6 Sp1?

Those references should tell you if it OK for your system and what problems it fixes.
However, with that name, I suspect it should be used only with WinXP. See my post below for Win98 friendly fixes.
Corruption of winsock is often caused by spyware or the process of removing the spyware.

Chubby--I suspect that fix you mentioned earlier is specific to WinXP.

I have used none of them. It would be smart to scan with your Antivirus program (with latest updates) after downloading and before using.

I will do what you have suggested about scans.
After I go through my cleaning procedures and scans, I will use DriveImage2002 and make a clone before trying any fixes...so it may take me awhile before you hear from me again about how IE6 responds to the fixes.
