I have just installed WinDVD 5.When it plays a DVD though, there is no sound. But when I pick to play a file and choose an MPG file it plays perfectly with sound and vision. This not a huge problem to me as I have other progs that will play the DVD's.I just wondered if anyone has any idea why the sound won't work when playing DVD's?

I am running XP home,my sound card is an on board c-media PCI (I have never had any trouble with this). In WinDVD in the Audio setup I have 'Analog Sound Card' picked and 2 Speaker Stereo picked.I have tried both the Wave Out and Direct Sound in the Audio renderer box.

First thought is - as always - uninstall > reboot > reinstall

Not familiar with your program, but these would be the first things I would check...
When "playing a DVD ", right click on screen, most programs will bring up a option/setting list. Look for a "language setting" and left click. Hopefully there is more than one choice for your preferred language. Also go into "preferences ". Check in video (?) settings for "Video Hardware acceleration" .. is it enabled/disabled. Also, have you tried a number of different "commercial DVDs" to call this a global problem.
"In WinDVD in the Audio setup I have 'Analog Sound Card' picked "
This is a confusing setting. Is there not a "digital choice "

Digital is for SP/Dif output only, Analog is (in this case) the correct choice.

Thanks for clarifying that reboot. My confusing / concern was input or output. Would like to ask more questions, but muddies up this thread.

    Thanks for the help folks.

I tried Uninstalling and rebooting and Installing again as PeteC suggested. It still didn't work, however,I tried uninstalling again, this time I looked in the Program Files directory after uninstalling, there was still an Intervideo Directory there so I deleted it.I then went into regedit and removed any entries for Intervideo(there was one entry). After this I rebooted again, reinstalled WinDVD and hey presto SOUND.:)

    Thanks again.

Glad to hear you got it sorted - some uninstall programs do leave remnants and cleaning the Registry is a good idea if you're confident in that area. Thanks for posting back.
