    Hello,
I am trying to help my son out with a problem. There are three computers on a network with a D-Link router. All three can use the internet. We want A & B computer to see & transfer files to each other but not to C. We don't want C to be able to access either A or B computer at all. We don't want A & B to be able to access C at all either. Do we do this with administrative login passwords on each computer so that if we do want to access another computer we can? Running XP Pro on all three machines.
Thanks for any help - Gene

    - turn off simple file sharing on A/B
    - use NTFS as the file system on A & B
    - log on to both A & B with username & non-blank password
    - unless the A & B logons are the same, put both username/passwords in as local users
    - set up share permissions to give each user account the rights you want and AFTER that is done, remove the 'everyone' group from the share permissions
    - set folder permissions the same as you did share permissions
    - make sure the Guest account is disabled on A & B (should be by default on XP-Pro)

Some of the above might be considered overkill but with all of them done, A & B have good access to each other and C should be out of the loop completely with nothing a user on C could do to alter the situation.
