I did a non destructive system restore on my HP/XP os and now my computer won't load netscape I can install it, but after that I double click teh Icon and no go! I had Norton 2004 Antivirus on it prior to doing the restore and that was gone, and I tried reinstalling with no such luck, it uninstalls after it gets an error. I also tried reinstallign my Roxio 5.0 ez cd creatoir and that will not install either. What should i do, I did all of the uninstall reinstall stuff. I used a few different spyware detectors, and still that did not help. I uninstalled Wild tangent and all the channels to it. You don't know how much Id appreciate some help on this.

    Welcome to the forum!

Have you used the undo feature in system restore to get back to before you did the restore that messed things up?

If you can undo, what was the original problem?

It wasn't a system 'point' restore. This was a non destructive sytem restore. It is using a HP application from your list of programs, not thru help and support. It was suppose to restore all default progs, and drivers. I did this because somewhere along teh lines some files got lost and Instead of clicking all of the 'ok/cancel' boxes I had free time so i thought I'd finally deal with it. I've reformatted all the hard drives in previous computers, so this wasn't even going to be a format so it should not have caused this much trouble. Anyway my computer wouldn't even boot up after I did it, it hung at the the thank you screen hit finish. So I had to rip out all the things I had added, memory, a cdrw drive, and put the original hardware back in, just to get it to boot up. Now that it has booted up I cant get hardly any apps to install nor load if I actually can get them installed.

Hi and welcome to you. Sounds like a truly nasty situation.

While it might be possible to fix the existing problems, I think if the system were mine I would opt to save any personal data and format/start over.

I would further suggest getting a copy of GoBack (either as part of a Symantec/Norton package or as stand-alone) and putting the HP recovery thing in the bottom of a deep drawer.

You might also want to strongly consider replacing the Roxio CD product with Nero. For some reason Roxio does bad things to quite a few XP installations.
