Follow the steps below to assign a static IP address to your computers.

On the LINKSYS ROUTER when you disable the DHCP option you will need to assign a static IP address to all your workstation including Gateway and DNS information. I believe that disabling the DHCP server of the router is unnecessary. I have deployed >250 of these routers with static assignments leaving the DHCP server enabled and doing so has caused no problems. Turning off the DHCP server can be a real PITA if a friend wants to come over and plug into your router for any file sharing or gaming.

Here are the steps at will be required.

(WIN95/98/ME)Right click on, Network Neighborhood, and click on Properties, double click on TCP/IP for your network card, you will need to specify an IP address. Enter this Ip address setting.

(WIN 2000) Right click on, My Network Places, and click on Properties, right click on Local Area connection and click Properties, double click on TCP/IP and select Use the following IP enter the IP, Subnet, Gateway, now select Use the following DNS and enter your DNS server from the ISP.

IP address
192.168.1.2

Keep in mind that the IP address from 192.168.1.100 through 150, are reserved for the DHCP on the router, the IP address you will use for the systems that you want them to use a static IPs will be from 192.168.1.2 through 99, and from 192.168.1.151 through 254.

Subnet Mask
255.255.255.0

Gateway
192.168.1.1 (IP address of the router)

Click on DNS configuration tab and type the DNS server from your ISP, some ISP's mainly cable ISP's require a Host name, and Domain name, you may need to contact your ISP for this information, if your ISP does not use a HOST name, just enter your first name. then add the DNS servers, and click ok twice, the system is going to restart and you are finish.

If you don’t know the DNS server from your ISP, access the setup screen of the router and then go to the Status page, scroll down to DNS and use the DNS server you see under DNS

Once you have set up a static LAN IP, go to the Forwarding tab of the Linksys router web-based GUI. Configure the ports defined for ICUII (in the first link I gave you) to be forwarded to the machine for which you configured a static IP (192.168.1.2 for example).

Give it s shot. It's actually pretty simple.

An example (from firmware version 1.42.3):

Customized Application: ICUII (or any description that makes sense to you)
Ext Port: 1024 to 5000
Protocol: TCP
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Enabled

Repeat for each of the defined port ranges. If port forwarding doesn't work for you, you may have to set the machine running the ICUII application as a DMZ host.
